Childhood Development Centre (ECDC), After School Programme (ASP)

education to pre-school children, allowing them to develop holistically healthy
habits and reach their full potential.

to address complex social issues in the communities we serve.

to children from 1 – 5 years old and to give support to parents.
b) The organisation’s secondary objectives
will be to:

Provide a
safer, healthy and secure environment for all young children;
-
Provide quality Education, care and opportunities for
holistic development to young children;
-
provide materials, resources and equipment which support
and extend children’s active learning;
-
support and
encourage appropriate training for all staff; and
promote active parent, family and community involvement.
Our Vision
To guide and educate the growing child in terms of his or her physical,
intellectual, social and emotional development. We wish to create awareness in
each child that he or she is a unique and special creation and that there is a
plan and purpose for their being in this world.
Our Aim
To provide a safe and caring environment where children have the opportunity
to grow and develop at their own pace and achieve their full potential at
each stage of their development.
Educational Philosophy and Curriculum
At SHEC Center Pre-School, the curriculum has been developed to cater
for the developmental needs and characteristics of the preschool child.
Our educational philosophy is founded upon Jean Piaget’s
Cognitive Developmental Theories of how children think and learn. In addition,
we incorporate many activities and teaching methods that are based on the Montessori
Method of teaching and the Curriculum used in the government
schools. Our teachers and class assistants are well qualified and have many
years of experience working with pre-school children.
When developing our curriculum, the following criteria were considered:
• Children experience and learn from their environment through
play.
• Children’s learning is influenced by the opportunities for play that are
provided for them.
• The child’s stage of development must be taken into consideration when
providing opportunities for play and learning.
Our Mission
To drive
essential social change aimed at solving systemic poverty and homelessness.
Through
services and partnerships that enable a journey out of poverty and homelessness
to sustainable development.
We
believe change is possible for everyone who wants to build a thriving life
and society anchored in Christ.
Our Values
The core values of SHEC CENTER are based on
Christian principles and reflect how we engage with all stakeholders.

What we do
SHEC Center
is where a place “where every child shines”. We are committed to empowering and developing
pre-school children. We believe that every child deserves a safe space where
they can learn and grow, and we are dedicated to creating such an environment.
With our focus on holistic health and education, we aspire to help these
children reach their full potential. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that all of
our grade R graduates are fully equipped to take on the challenges of primary
school. Through our work, we strive to make a positive impact on the
communities we serve by addressing complex social issues.
Pre-Schoolers: 4-Phase Model
Access to education for young children in South Africa is meaningfully
influenced by the socio-economic status of their households, with those from underprivileged
families being less likely to participate in educational activities. Seeds of Hope
Early Childhood Center in Hillbrow, Johannesburg, aim to counteract this by providing
access to quality education and developmental support for children aged 1 year
to six years from impoverished, overpopulated inner-city communities.
Through a comprehensive curriculum and a range of supportive services, our center will strive to ensure that all children, regardless of their socio-economic background, have the opportunity to achieve their developmental milestones and have a strong foundation for their future education.
